Our Story

Magnolias at the Ritz is a restaurant with a rich history, housed in what was once the Ritz Theatre, a 1930s movie theatre in the heart of downtown West Point, Mississippi. Originally part of a Publix/Malco partnership, The Ritz was the first theatre in northeast Mississippi to play “Talkies” (sound films). After closing as a theatre around the 70s, the beautiful building was renovated in 1985 in order to accommodate surrounding performing arts programs. Further restoration efforts took place between 2007 and 2009, with Milton Sundbeck bringing back elements to their nearly original 1930s design and charm. Focusing on details that echoed the elegance of its movie theatre days as well as introducing the restaurant formally known as the Ritz Cafe. In 2016, the Hamilton family, the owners of Anthony’s Good Food Market, took over the location. Carrie Hamilton brought in an eccentric vision, transforming it into a nostalgic dining experience that honors the building’s historic charm—serving Southern comfort food that’s as rich and soulful as the history surrounding it. Today, Magnolias at the Ritz is loved for its nostalgic vibe, original Art Deco touches, and Southern-style dishes served in one of the most iconic buildings in downtown West Point. From a 20th century theatre to a lunch hotspot and event venue, this beautiful building has remained a thriving staple and continues to play a meaningful role in the community.
